Baby Claire

My cousin Nicole and her husband Jesse welcomed sweet baby Claire into the family on April 27, 2016.  She's as cute as can be!

I was very excited and I got to meet her a few days after birth.  She was just as sweet and wonderful in person.

A couple weeks later, we brought dinner to Nicole and Jesse and the girls got to meet her too.  We love her!  Welcome to the family cousin Claire!

Swimming spring break

For Spring break this year, we started up some swim lessons.  Last summer Kate hardly wanted to get in the water, Emeline didn't make much improvements at the Y, and Adele would only get in the water with me.  With a trip to Hawaii coming up this summer, I wanted to get the little ones exposed to the water and more comfortable with the idea of swimming.  I also wanted Emeline to get some skills to swim stronger.  I'd heard raving reviews from a few friends about Waterworks, a swim school in SJ.  They recently opened up a Sunnyvale location, but only for kids over 3.  So I decided to give Waterworks a try over spring break.  So here are some pics of our Spring break swimming!

All the lessons are private or semi private (2 kids), but Emeline was lucky enough to not have anyone else in her semi private class, so ended up with private lessons.

Carmel retreat

I had the awesome opportunity to go on a silent retreat in April.  It is put on by some women who used to go to our church, who have many gifts in the area of Spiritual Direction and Spiritual formation.  This year theme was Grace.  It was wonderful to have some much needed space in my life, and with the company of some amazing women.  One of the fun things about this retreat is that we break our silence for dinner and wine.  Then back to silence and reflection after dinner.

One of the things we did at this retreat was reflect on many different peoples writings on the idea of grace.  At the end of the retreat, we selected some of the lines that impacted us, and put them into our on poem for reflection, called a French Pantoum.  There is a formula for how to put the lines together.   And I thought I'd put mine here to share.  Keep in mind these are not my words, just pieces of others' writing that struck me, that I've assembled here.

With that gift from the weekend, I headed home to rejoin my family.  But first, I stopped by this beautiful art shop in Monterey.  We pass it often on family trips, and I always want to peruse, but I don't because I know it will be chaos with the kids.  So this time, I stopped!  It was wonderful to look at all the brightly colored art of poppies and flowers that I love.  I even bought myself a piece.
