Halloween Part 2: Papa's birthday and Trick or Treating

We started Halloween/Papa''s Birthday with festive pancakes.  It helped with the surprise, that Papa slept late this day since he had been out celebrating with friends the night before.  The girls and I had plenty of time to make a fun breakfast.

And some birthday cards for Papa too!

When Papa woke up, the girls were super excited to wish him a happy birthday.

After our traditional Halloween/Birthday dinner of festive fall raviolis from Costco (this has become a silly tradition...which started with trying to make something fun but quick after a work day before trick-or-treating, but we are carrying it on even if it was a Saturday), we had some yummy cupcakes for dessert.  They were chocolate whisky cupcakes, with chocolate whisky buttercream (plain vanilla for the girls) topped with Halloween sprinkles by the girls.

Then it was time to don the costumes again.  This time all three superheros together!

Then off we went!  We met up with some neighbors for Trick or treating.  Adele had a blast.  I thought this year would be another year in the stroller for her, but she totally got the idea and loved running from house to house.

And getting candy was too cool not to share.

Halloween Part 1: School Celebrations

Halloween seems to be a very multi-stage and sometimes multi-day affair nowadays.  Between school celebrations, Wes' birthday, trick-or-treating, and other events, it gets quite busy!

So here are the first of the photos: School celebrations...I must admit, since Halloween was on a Saturday this year, I kinda thought maybe we'd just skip all the school stuff.  Maybe no school parties or parades to rush around to?  Nope, everyone just scheduled it the day before.  Makes a busy day for parents, but super fun for the kids!

Friday morning (the day before Halloween) I took Kate and Adele to preschool for their festivities.  Here are the first two superheros all ready to go.

Adele had an absolute blast at the preschool party.  She was so excited to actually get to stay and play, not just the quick visit of picking up or dropping off Kate.  She is so ready to start in their 2s program in January.

Next up on the agenda was going to Emeline's school to help her get changed and ready for their costume parade.  They also had a little classroom Halloween party at the end of the day.  Here she is all dressed up and ready to go.

The class gathered to sing a couple Halloween songs in Spanish for the parents.

Then it was parade time!

Sick days and painting pumpkins

We got hit by our usual round of fall stomach bugs and colds, resulting of lots of sick days at home this month.  This can make us all a little crazy...


But we also took advantage of the time at home to do some pumpkin painting.  While Emeline was sleeping off her stomach bug, Kate and Adele painted their pumpkins.

Then a few days later, while her sisters were sick, Emeline got her turn to paint too.

We also did some backyard pedicures.  Adele got her toes painted for the first time!

And here's an instagram goof up that was too cute not to share.  This one wants to do everything her big sisters do, including pedicures and skateboarding.  

Spirit day & Walkathon

This was our first time participating in Spirit Day at school.  Emeline was excited to wear her school shirt and spray paint her hair.

Of course Kate wanted to do it too, and we got her a shirt to match too.

Adele wanted to join in on the fun, though wasn't sure why.  :)

We also participated in the schools largest annual fundraiser, a walkathon (una caminata).  I make my first donations for a bake sale.  Chocolate cupcakes with either chocolate or vanilla icing, aiming for the school colors.

The walkathon was lots of fun too.  Here's Emeline's class getting together for their whole school photo.

Emeline had lots of fun walking the laps.  There were fun lap prizes and even a spray booth too cool off.

Delicious food for sale, fun music, and a good time.  We got to see a little of Emeline's determination come out, she was really disappointed that she didn't get to "finish her shirt".  The back of each kids shirt had a grid of boxes that were checked off each time the kids finished a lap.  There was a maximum of 60 laps, and we were told to help the kinders set a goal of maybe 20 laps.  Apparently, last year the max laps was 75, but they lowered it to 60 so that the kids would stop walking and enjoy the food, music, etc.  Emeline and I talked about her goal of 20 laps, but she insisted she wanted to do all 60.  Of course at the event she wanted to stop for breaks to play and get some treats, but when the event was almost over, we were getting dinner for the kids, and she was so disappointed she couldn't go back to the course to finish her shirt.  Poor thing!  Next time we will have to make more time to help her meet her big goals :)
