Summer Camps

This summer, instead of just doing our usual preschool routine, we decided to try doing some summer camps.  I admit, with the fear of not having enough to do, and having high energy kids stuck in the house, I think I WAY overbooked our summer.  It was a lot of fun for the girls to try some new activities, but it was also a very busy month.

Our first camp week was filled with Skateboarding camp for Emeline, and Busy Bees for Kate.  Emeline had been asking for a skateboard for her birthday, so we saw there was a skate camp for kids her age, so we signed her up.  She had a great time and learned to use her skateboard.  Here are some pics!

Walking in on the first day...

Learning to drop in, with help.

A video too:

The teachers were super late one day, but luckily there was a very resourceful dad to lead the class for a while :)

Adele had fun carrying boards too.

Skating with her new friend Indiana, who will be going to the same kindergarten with us this fall.

And walking in on the last day.

Here are a few more videos showing off things she's learned.

While Emeline was skateboarding, Kate had a preschool camp called Busy Bees.  The theme for the week was "Kids can cook".  She came home with homemade butter one day.  :)  She had lots of fun playing with her friend Elodie, sister to Tavin who was skateboarding with Emeline.

The second camp we did for the summer was VBS.  Emeline participated in the preschool program, and I volunteered helping out with preschool crafts while Kate and Adele played in the childcare.  VBS ran daily like a machine! Lots of energy, music, and action for the kids, and lots of organization and execution for the adults. It was a long and intense week, but it was a lot of fun, and the girls seemed to really enjoy it.  Kate and Emeline still love singing the songs from VBS.

Here's a peek into the main room, AKA Base Camp.  Yep, the theme was Everest, using God's power to conquer challenges.

I didn't take many pictures because I was so busy volunteering, but I did get a picture of the girls, and myself, all ready to go on the last day.

And the family nigh on the last day.  Emeline had fun showing all the hand movements she learned to the songs, and we had a nice picnic with the other families after.

Our final camp of the summer was gymnastics camp.  This was a much awaited camp for Kate.  She has been wanting to do gymnastics every since Anna's gymnastics birthday party.  Since Kate turned three, this was one camp she and Emeline could both do, and they had lots of fun.  It was also another fun week with Tavin and Elodie in class together.

All lined up and ready to go.

Jumping!

Crab walks...

Here are some pictures from the family show on the last day.

And everyone got to do the hokey pokey at the end :)

And..there's more...more?  Yes, I was also crazy enough to sign the girls up for swim lessons at the Y for a couple afternoons every week.  Kate had a hard time feeling comfortable getting in the pool, but once she got in she had fun.  Emeline dived right in as usual :)  Emeline's class was on the other side of the swimming area, so unfortunately, I couldn't get any pictures of her class.  But I got lots of Kate experiencing swim lessons for the first time.

Well that was a glimpse of our crazy summer activities.  They were fun activities, but next year I hope we will do more relaxing.
